A Laboratory Simulation Experiment to Assess Permeability and Shear Strength of a Gravel Soil Colluvium

Landslides are caused by rainfall as one of the main factors. In order to study effect on physical and mechanical parameters landslides, a model colluvium landslide is created in laboratory conditions with silty clay, river sand, gravel, taking Shuping Three Gorges Reservoir area prototype. The artificial applied accumulation model, which steady for 60 h, then gravel soil taken out along different elevations permeability test direct shear test, evolution law changes porosity, coefficient, strength elevation studied. Combined XRF NMR tests, spatial variation coefficient discussed from perspective chemical elements, minerals content, stability analysis carried considering influence elevation. results show that under action seepage, fine particles clay transported upslope downslope, resulting more at toe slope. original pores gradually filled, cementation between stronger, corresponding cohesion increased, reduced. Due loss upslope, relative content coarse increases, leading an increase internal friction angle. variability slope’s result transport seepage above. Specifically, angle downslope decrease linearly rainfall, but increases linearly. upslope’s 11% 8% compared those while 168%. FLAC3D numerical calculation maximum deformation X direction 145 m 175 water level 12% 42%, safety factor decreases 0.63% 5% combined reservoir level, is, when landslide. research findings provide better understanding similar bodies action.
